#53 Take Doug to My Old Stomping Ground of New Jersey

We finally went!

I have been wanting to take him up there ever since our first date.  He mentioned that he had been to New Jersey once…to Camden.  I grew up where the Real Housewives of NJ is filmed.  These two places couldn’t be any different.  (Quick Note:  I grew up in a wealthy area…my family however, was not)  We went back in September and it was the perfect excuse to escape the craziness surrounding us at the time.

We embarked on our grand road trip ..but first a pit-stop.  We heard about Hillsville Flea Market, right over the Virginia border, an apparent gold mine of vintage Pyrex, which I so lovingly collect.  I have never seen so much of these precious jewels in one place…overwhelming in the best way possible of course.  I could have spent days just wondering through the booths…quite literally days!  We looked around for about 2 hours and saw a mere fraction of the vendors.

My aunt and uncle were gracious enough to let us stay with them for the week and also served as our amazing NYC tour-guides.  I was super psyched to take Doug into the city and it couldn’t have been a more perfect day.  We went on one of those double-decker bus tours which I would highly recommend to anyone.  All the sights were seen.  Many photos were taken..BUT I didn’t realize that the camera on my phone was set on the lowest resolution until a week later…hooray Erin!  So, you are just gonna have to trust me that we were there and it was awesome.

Doug finally got to try NJ pizza…so good!  I think I also made him stop every morning so I could get a bagel.  I brought home a dozen and stuck them in my freezer for those times I’m craving a good bagel.

One of the highlights of the trip was going to Carlo’s Bake Shop from TLC’s Cake Boss.

It was much smaller then what I had imagined.

Once you go in, someone hands you a ticket with a number and you wait until that number is called.  I think we were there for an hour and a half total…not as bad as I was thought it would be.  It gave me plenty of time scope everything out and gawk.  This is the little sitting area on the show where Buddy has his consultations.

This is me spending too much money…but oh so worth it!  I’m glad they lived up to the hype.

Sadly, we had to come back home.  But before we did…one more pit-stop!

Hershey, Pennsylvania.  A magical magical place…

Neglected

I have completely neglected this blog.

Truth is…the past couple months haven’t been the easiest for me…not by a long shot actually.  Some very close people moved away, I lost my job, and several other glorious events occurred.  They say that bad things come in 3.   I think they came in dozens.

Anyhows, I hope to get back in the swing of things.  I have crossed several things off my 101 in 1001 list and I have so many recipes and crafts to tell you about.  And of course…Christmas!!  Stay tuned!

#49 Find a New Way to Wear My Hair

I did it…I cut my hair.

I’ve been thinking about getting bangs for a while but I had some reservations.  I had an incredibly awkward time in high school..bangs(when they weren’t cool), braces, awful glasses that I thought looked stunning in, the worst wardrobe, and practically mute.  It was truly an amazing/horrifying time in life.  In the middle of this already awesome moment, I decided to grow out my bangs.  I thought the best way to style them was to part them down the middle and pin them back with giant barrettes.  You missed a real treat.  Anyhows, bangs were something I loved on others…there was envy.  But, every now and then I get really brave with my hair and this was one of those moments.

Bangs happened.

Freaking out occurred the first day…2nd day was better.  It has now been about 5 days and I’ve decided that I like them.  Hooray!

This was good…I needed something drastic…in my control…ya dig?

#95 Answer the 50 Questions That Will Free Your Mind

Towards the end of making the 101 list, I was really running out of ideas.  I searched online for  some inspiration and found this to be a common goal and lets face it, who doesn’t like filling out surveys about themselves…remember those good ole MySpace days?  I’m not going to subject you to all 50 questions at once, that would be obnoxious and cray cray long.  So, here are the first 10 and here is the original link I found just in case you want all the questions right now for yourself.  Let me know what you think!

1.  How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?

~This would depend what day it is.  I think for the most part I feel 25, but about once a week I feel 60.  Doug and I often spend our Friday nights (or whatever you would consider 4:30-5pm) at a restaurant notorious for serving the…um well, older generation.  We then come home and complain how tired we are and go to bed at 8:30…before the sun has actually set.  Sometimes, we throw in a rousing game of Canasta.  Don’t we sound like a blast to hang out with?

2.  Which is worse, failing or never trying?

~Never trying…I hate wondering what could have been

3.  If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?

~For most people and situations, it’s because we feel obligated to do them.  Bills have to be paid and sometimes doing something we love as a career isn’t an option.  Other times, it is just the nice or good thing to do for another person.  In my case, there are certain individuals that require things to be done or else there will be gossip galore…Yes, I am in the mafia…no…maybe…if I told you, I would have to kill you.

4.  When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

~I would hope not but probably.  I worry too much of what others think and it stops/delays me from doing something I would like to do.  Also, I should win a gold medal in procrastination.  I talk a lot and think a lot, I don’t do nearly as much.

5.  What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?

~I wish people weren’t so darn mean.  Is it really necessary?   Just be nice to other people,  geesh!

6.  If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?

~Being able to create all day.  I can’t pinpoint an exact trade or skill…I jump around too much and I get bored.

7.  Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?

~There has been a constant thought bouncing around in this head of mine that won’t really allow me to settle.  I just have this feeling that there is more for me in life than what I am currently doing.  I can’t help but feel like where I’m at right now, it is just temporary.  Settling?  Naw, not yet at least.

8.  If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?

~Take more risks….don’t be such a procrastinator…tell people what I really think.  Hopefully, I wouldn’t be so afraid of being myself.

9. To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?

~I became a Christian…changing the way I make decisions in my life, how I chose the man to marry…I developed higher standards in life.  On another note, my work situation as of right now was my choice and on my terms.  It has definitely changed my path.

10. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?

~Honestly, doing things right.  Where I grew up was such a harsh, critical world that was constantly judging.  You could never do, say, act, or dress the right way.  I was never good enough for that world.  Having that sort of realization at such a young age can really screw you up in ways that you don’t even realize until much much later.  See #5
